Types of competitions
Young Fencers
There are several different formats of fencing competitions available to young Fencers. Described below are three of those.
The Wrexham & Cheshire Schools
These are organised and run by Wrexham Fencing Club. They are ideal for beginners, giving the fencer and their parent some experience in what happens at competitions. The aim of Wrexham Fencing Club is to organise about 2 or 3 of these competitions every year. Details of when the competitions will take place, will be found on the Wrexham Fencing Club web-site and will be advertised at Club Night.

Leon Paul Junior Series
These are a series of competitions sponsored by Leon Paul. The season for these competitions runs between January and December. There are a good number of competitions in this series and they cover all three weapons, with the age group ranging from Under 17 down to Under 9. Again this competition is ideal for beginners, but there are often more experienced fencers competing as well. In these competitions a fencer receives points depending where they are ranked at the end of the competition. A fencers’ best 4 results are added together at the end of the season, and a fencer is ranked overall. The higher ranked fencers at the end of the season win prizes. Any ranking in this competition will also help a fencer in their initial ranking for the British Youth Championships.
As we are now halfway through the season there are only about half the competitions left. However if you wish to fence in the foil, you still have sufficient competitions to be able to complete your 4. Even if you are unable to fence 4 competitions, entering one or two will give you some valuable experience. Please find attached the dates for the remaining competitions this year. Entry forms can be printed off from the Leon Paul web-site, or copies are at Wrexham Fencing Club.
The Leon Paul Junior Series is advertised on their web-site and will also be advertised at Club Night. The Leon Paul web-site is very informative and well worth a look.

They take place in Stoke. The age groups for these competitions range from Under 18, down to Under 12. You have to qualify for these Championships by competing in a regional qualifying competition. If you finish in the top four of the regional qualifying competition, then you qualify for the Championships. The regional qualifying competitions will take place on 27th September (Epee and Sabre)and 28th September (foil) this year and are held in Cardiff. They are advertised on the Welsh Fencing Web-Site and at Club Night.
