The Club

Wrexham Fencing Club is committed to bringing people into the Sport of Fencing, whether male or female, young or old.

Wrexham Fencing Club is regarded as one of the most successful clubs in North Wales, and is growing into one of the most successful clubs across the UK. In 2008 Wrexham Fencing Club came third in the UK Club of the year awards which looks at clubs throughout a range of sports.

The Club has a great social atmosphere and the mix between competition fencers and social fencers has proven to be part of the reason why Wrexham has done so well over the last few years.

With a range of fencers from fully-fledged internationals, through to absolute beginners Wrexham has an extremely good track record of producing competition and club fencers, throughout its 17 years of running, the club is now entering its busiest times in its history, with Junior Membership at an all time high, and a growing number of adult fencers.

Wrexham Fencing Club takes place on Friday Nights.

The Junior Session
For ages between 8 and 13 Years Old – 6:00pm until 7:30pm

The Adult Session
Runs between 7:45pm and 9:15pm – For anyone over the age of 13.

Wrexham Currently has three coaches at club night, along with several experienced fencers currently undergoing their coaching awards.

Mike Norfolk - Head Coach Mike Norfolk – Head Coach

Mike was one of the founding coaches of Wrexham Fencing Club all those years ago, able to coach in all three weapons, Mike is responsible for the general running of the coaching of the Fencing Club, while also helping to prepare the more élite fencers for competition Fencing. In 2007 Mike was awarded the Lifetime Presidency at the club, in recognition for his many years of service.

Steve Teggin Steve Teggin

Steve coaches at both Foil and Epée, and is active in the coaching of both Junior and Senior Fencers, Steve’s role in the club sees him working regularly with beginners, but also in the development of young competition ready fencers.

Steve is also the clubs Treasurer.

Valerijs Shchipanovs Valerijs Shchipanovs

The latest edition to Wrexham’s Coaching staff Valerijs is Russian Born, Latvian raised. Coaching in all three weapons (mainly Foil and Epee) Valerijs regularly takes individual lessons with Junior and Senior Fencers, and is responsible for taking warm-ups and setting class lessons, regarded as a fantastic addition to the Fencing Clubs staff, Valerijs has made himself a favorite with many of Wrexhams Élite fencers for his wealth of continental fencing styles. Valerijs’ Son also fencers in the clubs Junior sessions.
