The annual Wrexham County Borough Sports Awards are upon us again. The awards are open to all clubs in the Wrexham County, and apparently this year’s standard and number of entries has been high. The awards are to presented at Brymbo Sports and Cricket Club on the evening of Friday 20th November 2009. Wrexham Fencing Club nominated candidates for several of the different categories. Due to the success of these nominations, club night will be cancelled on the night of the awards giving. (There are a total of 5 pictures in the above slideshow. Stephanie Collister flew out to Tauberbischofsheim, Germany over the weekend (Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th October 2009) as part of the Great Britain Cadet (under 17) foil squad, to compete in the first of a possible four European ranking point competitions. (more…)

Three of Wrexham Fencing Club’s senior ‘relative’ newcomers, represented the club at the Phoenix Novice Foil competition on Saturday (24th October 2009). Sarah Dolan, Adele Thackray and Paul Butler ensured that they did the club proud with excellent results all round. The event was run by Liverpool Fencing Club, and was a great venue for fencers to commence their competitive exploits. (There are a total of 4 pictures on the above slideshow. The first Wrexham and Cheshire Schools foil competition of the new season was held this weekend (Sunday 18th October 2009), and it saw Wrexham fencers taking a clean sweep of gold medals. Of the 16 medals available, the club’s members won 11. (more…)

The Welsh Veteran Nationals 2009, were held in Aberystwyth last weekend (10th and 11thSeptember 2009). The championships owes its smooth running to Harry Toland and team. After a year that has been disrupted by niggling injuries, Ben Roberts has received his reward for all the hard work, determination, dedication and pain that he has gone through. He has been selected to represent Great Britain at this weekend’s Eden Cup, a Men’s Junior (under 20) FIE ‘A’ grade foil competition. (more…)

Currently second in the table, for the Leon Paul Under 11 Girls Foil Junior Series, Bethany Ellis made the trip south to the Camden event on Saturday (10th October 2009). With 2 first places and 2 second places making up her points total for this year, nothing but another first place would improve Beth’s ranking points. (more…)
