The National Senior Fencing Championships attracted all the top fencers from around Britain this weekend (25th and 26th July 2009). The end of season finale was held later than normal, but this did not deter the top names in British fencing from turning out, hoping to be crowned national champions. Several of the British Olympic Beijing squad entered the event, ensuring that the quality of the competition was top drawer. Wrexham Fencing Club contributed to the display of Wrexham and The Olympics, organised by Wrexham County Borough Council on Saturday (25th July 2009). The weather stayed good for our fencers, who grabbed a great deal of attention from the public. Fencing shared the limelight alongside table tennis, short tennis and fitness at Wrexham Museum. The contest for top spot has become even closer after the results from several Leon Paul Junior Series have been added to the ranking table. As can be seen from the table below, there are now only 3 points between first and third place. Bethany Ellis still leads the pack but she is being closed down by George Dolan and Jon Lambert, with Cassie Eades making a charge from 4th place. (more…)

Jersey hosted this year’s Veterans Commonwealth Fencing Championships last week. The Welsh Team was managed and lead by Wrexham Fencing Club Head Coach, Mike Norfolk . He was joined in the team by Wrexham full members Mark Robertson, Peter Morris and Rose Gregory and County members Wednesday Jones and Lisa Evans. The Wrexham contingent played their part in the medal haul, which surpassed the highest total won by any previous Welsh Team in any on the various Commonwealth age categories.(There are a total of 6 photographs in the above slideshow and they will change after a few seconds) (more…)

Manchester held it’s first Open on Saturday (11th July 2009) and Wrexham Fencing Club were represented by several of their fencers. The competition involved only the men’s and women’s foil and epee events, and Wrexham had members taking part in three of the four events. (more…)
