Once more Cardiff was the venue for this years Oxfam Open. This weekend (30th and 31st May 2009), three of Wrexham Fencing Clubs members made the trip to this charity event. Last year the competition raised over £3,000 for the worthwhile cause of Oxfam, and this year the event organisers were hoping to smash that total. Jamie Morris, Ben Roberts and Mark Robertson ventured south to support the charity and at the same time attempt to pick up some valuable ranking points towards their end of season, senior ranking. Friday club night (22/05/09) saw the return match between Wrexham Fencing Club and Chester University Fencing Club. Having lost the previous encounter between the two clubs, Wrexham were in determined mood to square up the contest. The two clubs provided two teams of three foilists to compete in a relay match. The opposing clubs selected A and B teams, and the two A teams played against each other and the two B teams did the same, making 2 matches in all. The overall winner would be the club with the best aggregate score. (There are a total of 7 pictures on the above slideshow, and they will change after a few seconds)

 Once again Wrexham Fencing Club members make up a considerable proportion of athletes selected for the 2009 U.K. School Games, Welsh fencing team. In total, Wrexham have 6 fencers representing the club in the Welsh team. Added to that, Carloyn Benson has been chosen to perform refereeing duties in the fencing arena. The 2009 event is the fourth School Games. This year the event comes to Wales for the first time and will be hosted by Cardiff, Newport and Swansea, in early September.

This weekend (Sat 16th and Sun 17th May), saw a large turn out of Wrexham Fencing Club members, entering the Sheffield Open. For several of those fencers, it was their first venture into ‘Open’ competitions. Paul Butler, Peter Morris, Sarah Dolan and Adele Thackray were all embarking on their debut voyages into unknown territory.              (There are 9 different pictures on the above slideshow, the picture will change after a few seconds)
