The Welsh Veteran Fencing Team were in action at the weekend (25th and 26th April 2009) and several members of Wrexham Fencing Club were amongst them. The Welsh team were competing in the Veterans 4 Nations, against England, Scotland and ’All’ Irish teams, at the event, which was held in Belfast. Steven Unitt and Keiron , represented Wrexham Fencing Club on Saturday (25/04/09), at The Warwick Epee Under 13 Leon Paul Junior Series. The boys both specialise in the epee weapon and were up against a strong field in what is traditionally a very well attended and high quality competition. (more…)

This weekend (18th and 19th April 09) several members from Wrexham Fencing Club represented Wales in The Senior Winton Cup, which was held at The English Institute Of Sport complex, Sheffield. The competition is a regional event and open to all the fencing regions of Great Britain. Wales selected their elite senior fencers to participate in the competition and 7 of those fencers came from Wrexham Fencing Club. David Gregory and Ben Hughes were in the men’s epee, Ben Roberts the men’s foil, Daniel Lumb the men’s sabre and Lydia Johnson, Carolyn Benson and Stephanie Collister made up 75% of the women’s foil team. This weekend (11th and 12th April) saw Wrexham Fencing Club members taking part in the Birmingham International Fencing Tournament. This is annually one of the biggest tournaments on the British Fencing calendar, and this year was no exception. Many of the top British fencers were amongst the 700 plus strong field, which included fencers from all over Europe, and from as far afield as Australia and USA. As the departure date for the Germany trip nears, Rose and David Gregory reflect on their German connections. As you are no doubt aware Wrexham Fencing Club have been challenged by Wrexham’s twin town, Ludenscheid, Germany, to a fencing contest. Final plans are in place for the trip, and Wrexham are now able to unveil their secret weapons in Rose and David’s ancestry.
